Beeswax: When pricing permits, this is used in my products as an emulsifier and for its sweet smell

Anti-inflammatory, attracts/holds in moisture, doesn’t clog pores, antibacterial, Vitamin A, anti-allergenic

Risks: Pollen oils are used to turn white wax into a yellow or brown color 1 Due to its antibacterial properties, it may interfere with probiotics. Anti-inflammatory properties are very helpful in healing from injuries, relieving pain, reducing swelling, etc.; however, inflammation is also an inherent part of the healing process, showing up in the immune system's initial response to cuts, bruises, etc. As with most things, anti-inflammatory ingredients should be used in moderation.2

Cocoa powder/extract:

As food: Contains up to 3x as many antioxidants as green tea; great source of magnesium; increases blood flow to the brain; high in polyphenols, which can reduce blood pressure and improve heart health; anti-inflammatory; helps prevent clogging in the arteries; can give a boost of energy comparable to coffee; contains healthy fats; can improve the effectiveness of insulin. 1
In skincare: used in the form of cocoa butter, extract, and powder. The butter is very moisturizing and high in antioxidants. Cocoa solids contain high levels of caffeine and theobromine. 2
High in flavonoids, which are beneficial for creating thicker, denser, better hydrated, and more UV-resistent skin. (Heinrich et al., 2006) 2

Coconut oil:

For topical use: Moisturizing, Antiaging and Antiviral Properties; Rich in Vitamin E; Strengthens skin tissue; rich in proteins; Soothes eczema, sunburn, and psoriasis. Contains 3 fatty acids: capric acid, lauric acid and caprylic acid, each of which kills candida 1
As food: Contains medium chain triglycerides, which can be beneficial for several brain disorders. A dietary staple--more than 60% of calories--in some parts of the world. Can help burn fat, when eaten in place of other oils, butter, margarine, etc. Almost 50% of the fatty acids in coconut oil is the 12-carbon Lauric Acid, which breaks down into monolaurin. Both lauric acid and monolaurin can kill bacteria, viruses, and fungi, including Staphylococcus Aureus and Candida. 2

Disclaimer: All properties to do with bacteria, viruses, and fungi are understood to be possible in raw coconut oil, when used by itself. I can make no claims about their effectiveness in my products in any other capacity except the moisturizing benefits, the consistency/texture it gives my products, and the speed at which it absorbs into the skin in comparison with other oils, nor am I currently aware of how much would have to be used/ingested to achieve these benefits.

Cornstarch:

Topical: Anti-inflammatory properties1, absorbs oil, mild abrasive (good for facial exfoliating)3

As a food: Used to help manage low blood sugar 2

Risks: Use with caution if you have high blood sugar or are on a low-carb diet for medical reasons. Some sites have cited cornstarch with clogging pores and/or breeding bacteria when combined with sweat/oil; however, these claims seem flimsy to me and have been well contested by others who have used cornstarch for years (on their faces and/or their babies' butts) with no issues.
